Things to do
The Portage is an ideal place to base yourself to discover Marlborough and the Sounds. We have made it easy for you to explore the local area, relax at the resort, hike the Queen Charlotte Track or cruise the local waterways.
Relax and soak up the atmosphere, relax in one of our comfortable lounges, on the deck or by the pool. Discover the native birds and flowers in the garden or wander further afield to discover a local beach. Local walks can be 20 minutes or up to half a day on the Queen Charlotte Track.
In the foyer and Retro Lounge Bar there is a wonderful display of art by award winning New Zealand artists and the Kenepuru Store has souvenirs and artworks that are ideal for gifts or mementos.
Beside the Snapper Cafe is the swimming pool and games court with giant chess, petanque and sand volleyball as well as children’s games. On a wet day the pool table in the Snapper Cafe is fun for all the family or a board games will test the skill of most people.
For those keen to wander further afield we have 3 different activity programs –
Discover Portage – offering a selection of the most popular water, walks and wine experiences offered by Marlborough’s best tour operators. Most tours depart every day all year round.
The Portage Adventure Centre – hire a sea kayak, take out a row boat, go fishing with your own motor boat or mountain-biking around the area. Managed for the hotel by Marlborough Sounds Adventure Company and operating every summer.
Special Interest Tours – do something special, it could be a tour just for you and could easily be the absolute highlight of your trip to New Zealand.
