Workshops for artists and writers

Every year we hold two or three workshops – in creative writing, painting and printmaking. If you would like advance notice, please contact us and we’ll make sure you hear about the next event. A favourite is the Creative Writing Retreat with Joan Rosier-Jones every year in May or early June. Ideas seem to fill the air over this weekend, as writers work on projects ranging from novels to short stories to non-fiction, guided and inspired by one of the country’s top creative writing tutors, novelist Joan Rosier-Jones. Accommodation is subsidised by The Portage for a very affordable package for writers, so early bookings are recommended.

In autumn 2010 we have a workshop in woodcuts with expressive artist Wayne Seyb – don’t expect too many rules!
And October sees the annual Creative Sounds Weekend with formal writing workshops, and art events as part of the Marlborough Sounds Water and Wilderness Festival – check to see what’s planned or let us know what genre you would be interested in.
