Hotel Operations Manager
- Outstanding opportunity for an industry professional wanting to take the next major step in their career to run the operational departments of a resort or hotel. An information package is available on request.
You will be an experienced hotel professional who will have excellent knowledge of both kitchen and F&B service. F&B is 50% of our business. You will have worked in a hotel either here in New Zealand or overseas and may have operated your own business for a while including being a chef who has now moved to management. You will also understand the key role that Rooms Division plays in delivering results to the hotel.
This position could suit an overseas candidate wishing to grow their career experience but we would require training or experience in the UK, Europe or Australia / NZ as part of this role. Formal training is not required but would be an advantage. There are career growth opportunities for the right candidate.
This is a resident manager position and includes accommodation on-site in a 2 bedroom cottage with views. You will report directly to the Managing Director.

Head Chef
- 8 months position, winter off, with option of return 2nd summer
Are you a young chef on the move up? Do you wish to pack in more learning before you 'do your own thing'. Then Portage is the place to do it. You will be in charge of Te Weka a la carte restaurant with a focus on seafood, and overseeing the Snapper Cafe. PLUS being a full service hotel, we do wedding banquets, breakfasts, packed lunches and a hot bread bakery and pie shop next door.
You will have excellent team leadership skills, love seafood, understand stock decrimentation through computer tills and recognise the importance of stocktakes in managing your costs.

Sous Chef - Snapper Cafe
- 8 months position, with potential of a permanent position
Minimum 2 years hotel experience necessary with wide food and cooking knowledge. Must be a leader with good communication skills, well organised and able to motivate a team. This is a seasonal contract with potential of a permanent position. This position will be responsible this summer for the busy Snapper Cafe and, depending on the candidate, will move to Te Weka Restaurant if the position becomes permanent.

Purchasing Officer
- Permanent position, living in Picton, daily boat transfer to hotel
This is a key role in the operation of the hotel. You are in charge of all purchasing processes at the hotel, working closely with department managers and assisting them in maintaining their relationships with suppliers. You will have excellent computer skills to administer the stock and pricing computer system and tills, you will love reconciliations. Ideally you will have been involved in stock purchasing and product costings in another role.

Maitre'd - Te Weka a la carte restaurant
- 6 month position - October to April
Te Weka Restaurant is our quality dining restaurant featuring seafood. Guests range from couple enjoying a romantic dinner through to groups of walkers on a package with a table d'hote menu. This is a key role in delivering quality of service to our guests. You report to our Restaurant and Bar Manager and are a key person in our F&B team.

Porters - Bag/Transport and Kitchen

Full time work is available in these positions until April. This is a busy position and requires a person who is interested in food and the kitchen and is prepared to get in and clean.
- Bag/Transport Porters need to be energetic. You will be moving bags, freight and people around the resort and to and from boats. The role includes general maintenance of the hotel and grounds.
Transport porters are required to be fit and hold a current NZ drivers license.

We required an energetic and informed Supervisor who has done this sort of work before and can demonstrate good leadership skills. You will want to part of the resort's Team Leaders, participating in the weekly Operations Meetings, learning about managing a business area. This is a seasonal contract with the potential to become a permanent position.
